What it is
Rockwool, also called stone wool or mineral wool, is made by melting volcanic rock and spinning it into fibre. Pressed into slabs and rolls, it fills the cavity inside partitions, ceilings and duct linings, where it soaks up sound and slows the passage of heat. It does not burn, which is why it is the usual choice wherever a fire rating matters.
